Fraxel®

What are the risks of Fraxel®?

Redness and swelling are the most common side effects from a Fraxel® treatment. If swelling does occur, it will subside within a day or two. Redness may occur and will fade within a several days.

What is the actual Fraxel re:store® procedure?
Your skin is first cleansed and a topical anesthetic ointment is applied to the treatment area approximately 60 minutes prior to the treatment. The Fraxel® laser handpiece precisely reads the discreet contours of the treatment area. Most patients describe the treatment as a “prickling” sensation. The topical anesthetic ointment and localized air cooling alleviates most discomfort. The procedure is approximately 30 minutes for a full face.

How long to see the results?
Results are immediate and progressive. After your very first Fraxel® Laser Trreatment, you will begin to feel the difference in your skin, as it gradually becomes softer, smoother and fresher. Fine lines around your eyes and mouth will noticeably fade, as will acne scars, uneven coloring and the brown spots caused by aging and sun exposure. Total improvement is usually realized within 4 to 5 months.

How many treatments will I need?
Clinical studies suggest that on average, an effective treatment regime is 3 to 5 sessions, spaced about 3 to 5 weeks apart. Depending upon your condition and schedule, you and Dr. Gerrish may choose to space treatment sessions further apart. This time frame and treatment structure allows for complete healing and replacement of damaged tissue with new collagen, elastin, and healthy skin cell growth.

When can I return to my normal activities?
Fraxel improves your appearance by affecting only a fraction of your skin at a time with thousands of tiny microscopic laser spots. Fraxel offers the benefits of speedy healing with minimal to no downtime. You may apply make-up or shave immediately after the treatment. Typically patients find that they can return to work following the treatment or the next day. All clients are required to wear SPF 30 or higher twice a day and avoid direct sun exposure during the healing process for at least 1 month after completing the treatment regimen.
